Watch — And Smell! — The World’s First Multi-Sensory Fireworks Display

London was the place to be this past New Year’s Eve. While you had your ball in New York City and your party in Sydney, London was home to the world’s first multi-sensory fireworks display. You could literally taste the celebration.

Bompas & Parr, the crazy food geniuses who crafted this multi-sensory experience, made a series of videos of what it was like behind the scenes there in London. What’s so awesome about this, though, is that, in addition to a pretty impressive display of pyrotechnics, the show included blasts of scents from all kinds of fresh fruits matched to the colours of the fireworks. There were bubbles filled with flavoured smoke and even edible confetti.

On top of all that, the 250,000 people in attendance were also given scratch’n’sniff handouts, wristbands sparkling with LEDs, and new fruit candies specially made to complement the sights and sounds of the show.

You can find more videos of Bompas & Parr preparing for the extravaganza (which you can also watch below in its entirety). Unfortunately, YouTube does not come in scents or flavours — yet.

Oh, and one more thing: if you happen to be in London next week, you can see Bompas & Parr in person, discussing the exciting future of booze in space, or what they call “zero-gravity cocktails”. They’ll be near Waterloo Station on Sunday, February 2. Get your tickets here.
