Watch This Etch A Sketch Tell The Story Of Its Inventor

Drawing on an Etch A Sketch is hard. Well, it is if you want to do more than just make a horrible mess of angularity. But the squarish beauty of the line-drawing toy is put to great use in this clever little animation that tells the story of André Cassagnes, its inventor.

Put together by Christoph Niemann, the short, blocky animation tells the tale of how Cassagnes came up with the aluminium powder-based toy while he was working as an electrician and randomly became the most famous kite-maker in France before he passed away back in January of this year.

It’s probably not the most impressive thing you’ve seen on an Etch a Sketch, but it does stay true to the kind of drawings a non-superhuman might make on the thing. Who needs circles anyway? [NYT]
