You’ve never heard of Kazam — because it’s a brand new manufacturer, set up by ex-HTC execs in the UK. But it’s offering up a range of new smartphones that come loaded with stock Android and, intriguingly, a policy that offers free broken screen replacement.
Created in June, the company has now announced a line of phones and, in the old HTC tradition, there are loads of them. In fact there are seven models: two higher-end handsets called Thunder and five lower-end ones called Trooper. High-end here is a fairly generous term: the meatiest device is powered by a 1.3GHz, quad-core processor from MediaTek and packs 1GB of RAM. Screens are also so-so: the 4.5-inch model features a 854 x 480 resolution, for instance.
So, they’re no contender for the new Nexus 5 — but it seems that isn’t the market they’re gunning for. Instead, Kazam seems to be strangely consumer-centric. So, the devices all come with stock Android, and there’s a clear focus on support: Kazam Rescue claims to instantly put users in touch with a support rep to solve issues, and the company will replace your device’s screen if you crack it within the first year. Which is kind of amazing and perfect if you’re clumsy. Sadly, there’s currently no word on pricing, release dates or international availability. [Kazam via Gizmodo UK]
