Hands-On With HP’s Leap Motion Ultrabook [Video]

HP’s latest ENVY 17 ultrabook boasts a gesture-controlled Leap Motion sensor built directly into the laptop. Check out our video to see how it handles Google Earth.

The HP Envy 17’s bespoke Leap Motion sensor comes in the form of a little black strip to the right side of the touchpad. Once switched on (space+function), it allows you to use compatible Windows 8 apps without touching the screen or keyboard.

As the above video attests, it can be used to navigate Google Earth to dramatic effect. We played around with the interface ourselves and were zipping around the globe with relative ease after a few minutes of experimentation. HP likened the experience to a “digital bike” (i.e. — it takes a while to learn, but then becomes second nature.) Now we’re all excited to play a game set in the Minority Report universe!
