Google is readying itself to churn out thousands of pairs of Glass, and now it’s also preparing an accessory store to accompany it. But those extras won’t come cheap.
Apparently live to Explorer users, the new site offers up all kinds of extras for Google’s wearable device: microfibre pouches, clear protective shields, additional chargers, and that new mono earbud that should come with the updated version of Glass.
But, pricing. Whoa, pricing. If the screenshots of the site supplied by Explorer users (below) are to be believed, you can bank on stumping up $US50 for a microfibre pouch or charger, or $US75 for a clear shield. Elsewhere, there’s reference made to a sunglasses accessory by Maui Jim and Zeal Optics, which doesn’t yet seem to be for sale — but likely that will cost a small fortune too.
Given the $US1500 cost of the Explorer edition of Glass, perhaps these prices aren’t too surprising. But then, buying the things off a barge might be worth it. [Nick Starr via Marketing Land via The Verge]
