Snapchat’s unique selling point has always been the fact that images and videos could be shared with one other person before — poof! — they went up in smoke. But now the app is branching out to provide a 24-hour timeline to share with friends.
Called Stories, it’s Snapchat’s attempt at making its service both more social and a little more permanent. Post a picture or video to Snapchat Stories, and it will appear on a feed for 24 hours, after which it will disappear for good. Like Path, you’ll also be able to see who has viewed each piece of content.
It’s an interesting move, and one that could work well. Plenty of people are unsure about the permanence associated with some social networks (*cough* Facebook *cough*), and this could perhaps provide a nice compromise between that and the ethereal quality of Snapchat of old. The new feature will roll out on both iOS and Android soon. [Snapchat via Engadget]
