Want your home to be operated automatically? It’s no longer a futuristic pipe-dream thanks to cool gear like the Belkin WeMo range. Belkin has today expanded the home-automation range, bringing the WeMo Light Switch to Australia.
The Belkin WeMo Light Switch is exactly what it says on the tin: a smart light switch that controls your lights over Wi-Fi when you’re at home, as well as 3G and 4G cellular networks when you’re away from your house. No longer will you wonder if you left your lights on when you exited that morning! Hurrah for lower power bills.
The smart light switch allows you to set rules via the Belkin WeMo app, allowing you to have the lights automatically turn on at sunrise or sunset, when you come home or automatically when you’re away to make those outside think you’re home. The WeMo Switch also includes IFTTT compatibility so you can configure rules intelligently on that platform, also.
Unlike the Philips Hue Lights we took a look at a while back, the smarts for the Belkin WeMo Light Switch are stored in the physical button you’ve got on your wall, rather than up in the bulb. This makes it arguably cheaper, but tougher to install. You can do-it-yourself if you’re confident enough in mucking about with home-wiring (just make sure you’re power is off, please!), or you can call a sparky in to help out.
The Belkin WeMo will be sold from late October through Australian and New Zealand retailers from today for $69.95.
