ABC To Air Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Episode Live

Australia's ABC will now officially be getting in on the global television event that is the 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who, promising to show it live on ABC 1 at the same time as the rest of the world.

The Day Of The Doctor is the 50th anniversary episode starring Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and past stars David Tennant and Billie Piper.

The ABC has today promised to air the episode live on ABC1 with the rest of the world on Sunday 24 November. The time is yet to be confirmed, but we'll be watching at the same time as 75 other countries around the world. Take that, pirates!

To celebrate the upcoming release of the 50th anniversary ep, the ABC will stuff its iView platform full of retro Doctor Who goodness, with a hand-picked crop of 47 classic Who adventures.

ABC2 will air a series of Doctor Who specials between now and the 50th anniversary of the show.

It's all Who-ppening!

I hope they bring back the Robot Yetis.

It will most likely get shown at 6am, and then repeated Sunday night. I can't wait for the 50th ep. But I don't see my self getting up at 6am to watch it live with millions of other people around the world. People will still pirate it.

For the record, this will be the first episode where Jenna-Louise Coleman will go simply by the name "Jenna Coleman"...

Now THIS is how you fight pirates! (or show it online via Iview or other legal ways).

"take that pirates"? this is exactly what "pirates" want... shows in a timely fashion instead of waiting weeks/months.

I'm a Pirate, and what you said is indeed correct.

Listen up major networks, I've been saying this for years!!! Play it live on a secondary channel then on prime time later that day. Unless you're Foxtel, then good luck getting people to stop pirating.

Pity they don't show anything in HD any more, the image quality on SD free to air is pretty bad these days, and are they going to show in in 3D like the BBC?
