Netflix made history last night by scoring three Emmys. In the process, it has become the first company to win awards for online-only shows.
Original Netflix shows were nominated for 14 awards, . In the event, House of Cards actually won three of them: David Fincher took one home for best directing in a drama series, and the show also picked up awards for outstanding casting and outstanding cinematography.
The show was nominated for some bigger awards — like best drama — but more established network TV shows won out. Still, it’s an incredibly impressive feat, and shows just how seriously people are taking online drama.
With Netflix promising at least five or more original shows a year, backed by a budget of $US300 million, things have never looked better for original online content. Here’s looking forward to Orange Is The New Black. [Variety]
