Listen To An Oral History Of Nirvana’s In Utero Here, From Spotify

Just over 20 years ago, Nirvana released In Utero. To celebrate the anniversary of the band’s final record, Spotify produced a majestically curated package of the history behind it. This is the goods.

The audio documentary is the first instalment of Spotify Landmark, a new series about important moments in music history. “The Real Story of Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’” has interviews with bassist Krist Novoselic as well as a fascinating dive into the recording process with the album’s producer Steve Albini. These guys aren’t the easiest guys to get on tape, so it’s a pretty special little package.

Spotify Landmark is free to everyone and no sign-up is required through Spotify-Landmark.com. As we’ve learned with battle for the streaming video throne, exclusive content like this goes a long way towards winning people over to one service or another. Curiously, though, Spotify is choosing not to force a sign-up for the content, which is a gamble on the value of good publicity. It or may not pay off — we’re just glad this awesome doc exists.
