When Adobe first launched Elements, it was the “amateur” version of its full Photoshop software. Now, with the release of Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12, the company is angling to make it the more nimble, mobile cousin of the full Creative Suite.
Announced today, Elements 12 will strengthen the bridge between mobile and computer editing. Using Adobe Revel as a platform, the program will sync your photos automatically from your phone to your computer and vice versa as you edit. That way, if you edit an image you took on your smartphone using your computer, the new version will show up automatically in your smartphone photo album. A number of other improvements, including Content Aware Move and Pet Eye Correction (!), will accompany.
But it’s the automatic syncing that really counts here. It’s simple but potentially powerful functionality — and as smartphones turn more and more consumers into photography enthusiasts, it couldn’t be better timed.
