Report: iPhone 5S Processor Is 31% Faster

Let’s start by saying that this isn’t much to go on; if it were more concrete it would be more than just a tweet. But Fox newsperson Clayton Morris — who’s had some success with Apple rumours in the past — has claimed knowledge that the A7 chip that will power the iPhone 5S is 31 per cent faster than its A6 predecessor.

Now’s a good time to point out that this number could come out of thin air and would still be plausible, and that even if it is a real number there’s no sense whatsoever of what benchmarks were being used to come up with it. Add on to that the fact that of course the A7 processor would be faster than the A6, and you’ve got yourself more of a casual head nod of agreement than a frothing-at-the-mouth superscoop.

Still, even if the only takeaway is that Apple is, in fact, testing a new processor which will, in fact, make the next iPhone noticeably faster, well, that’s enough for a Monday morning. [Twitter]
