Foursquare Now Has Ads

Next time you check in at a cafe, you might see an ad. As expected, Foursquare has just rolled out ads to its mobile apps.

They ads aren’t as distracting as you expect, and you don’t see them at every check-in. They pop up immediately after you check in somewhere, just like if you were to unlock a special or earn a badge, but they’re obviously targeted. For example, Captain Morgan is one of the Foursquare advertisers, so if you were to check in at a bar, you might see a pop-up suggesting you order something with Captain in it. But we actually don’t so much mind these ads — a few Gizmodo staffers noticed them today and were barely bothered by them. [AdAge via CNET via The Verge]
