Apple CEO Teases Orchard Of New Products

Apple CEO Tim Cook has promised a busy US autumn season for the company, with a swathe of new products preparing to hit the market. Could a budget iPhone be among the new announcements? Or will it be a new, über-deluxe model for cashed up fashionistas?

During Apple’s third-quarter earnings call, the company revealed that it had enjoyed yet another bumper year, with iPhone sales exceeding analyst estimates. But the interesting part was the comments made by Apple’s head-honcho Tim Cook during a conference call with financial analysts:

We are laser-focused and working hard on some amazing new products that we will introduce in the fall and across 2014… we’re working on stuff we’re really proud of…Our key catalyst will always be new products and services. These will be both in existing categories we’re in and in new categories. I think we have lots of growth opportunities. I don’t subscribe to the common view that the high-end of the smartphone market has hit its peak.

That last sentence is especially intriguing. Most commentators have been speculating about the emergence of a budget iPhone this year, but this obviously wouldn’t fall into the “high-end” of the market.

Our guess is that a plus-sized “phablet” could be in the works, or perhaps he was referring to the rumoured Apple smartwatch (this also fits in with Cook’s promise of “new categories”).

We’ll have to wait for an official announcement before we have any concrete answers, but one thing’s for sure — new Apple products are coming soon and it appears at least one of them will be something major. We’ll keep you posted with more news as we get it.
