This Lego Mashup Of Volkswagen And Star Wars Works Surprisingly Well

Well, it was only a matter of time before someone mashed up an icon of German engineering with an icon of the Galactic Empire. Semiotically speaking, there’s something hilariously appropriate about this hack by Craig Callum, a Denmark-based LEGO design lead who gets to dream up new sets for a living.

On the top, we’ve got a classic Volkswagen van — which my Grandpa nicknamed “Hitler’s Revenge.” On the bottom, we’ve got the legs of an AT-AT, a tank that represents the sheer technological force of the Empire. It’s a match made in heaven, no?

Weirdly, this isn’t the first time someone’s put a VW bus on an AT-AT’s legs. Back in 2009, a German VW fan made a toy-sized mockup that actually walks.
