Julia Gillard Is A Big Game Of Thrones Fan

So our PM is a bit of an accidental geek. Turns out that on her limited downtime, Julia Gillard really likes checking in on the fight for Westeros on Game Of Thrones.

The Guardian reports this morning that Prime Minister Julia Gillard has really taken a shining to the show, catching up on previous seasons over the Summer break. (And before you start: yes, The Guardian could have done a big interview over the latest Budget, the ructions in the Labor Party or the race for the top job in September, but instead we’re talking favourite TV shows. On with it.)

The PM says her favourite character is Daenerys Targaryen — also known as the Khaleesi — in her fight to reclaim the Iron Throne.

Australia is still the country that downloads Game Of Thrones the most, but the PM assures The Guardian that she watched the DVDs to catch up on the series before patiently waiting for the new episodes “on Mondays”. Foxtel’s Showcase channel airs Game Of Thrones on Monday nights. While it’d be fun to implicate the PM as a GoT pirate, it’s highly doubtful she’d be that silly.
