The Kobo Aura Is An Insanely High-Resolution E-Reader, And It’s Coming To Australia

“The Porsche of e-readers.” That’s what Kobo is calling its new e-reader device. If you’re fed up with low-resolution e-readers ruining your books, the Kobo’s new Aura HD is here to solve the problem: a 6.8-inch e-reader with a crazy high-resolution e-ink screen.

The Aura HD is packing a 6.8-inch e-ink screen with a crazy resolution of 1080×1440 and 265 dpi. Compared to the Kindle Paperwhite which packs a 6-inch screen with a resolution of 1024×758 and 212 dpi and you realise it’s actually pretty impressive stuff.

Kobo calls it a “limited edition” device for “the most passionate booklovers”. Whether that translates to ‘we won’t actually have many available’, we’re not sure.

The Aura is packing the mandatory backlight all e-readers seem to have these days, font personalisation and all the nifty social features we loved when we reviewed the Kobo Arc tablet. Admittedly it’s going to be a bit different using those features on an e-ink screen as opposed to an LCD touchscreen, but it’s nice to see them again.

Kobo’s high-resolution reader will be out in Australia in June for $219.99.
