This Was The First Video Uploaded To YouTube, Eight Years Ago Today

It’s YouTube’s eighth birthday! Since then it has given us viral smash after viral smash, but what was the first video uploaded onto the video site way back in April 2005? Interestingly, a trip to the zoo.

YouTube founders uploaded the first video to YouTube on 23 April, 2005 at 8:27pm. Technically, that means YouTube’s birthday isn’t until tomorrow, but we can start celebrating early, I think.

The zoo video was shot by Yakov Lapitsky at the San Diego Zoo, and features Jawed Karim, co-founder of the site. He’s explaining that elephants have long trunks in 19 seconds of grainy, mid-2000s video. Thanks, guy!

What was the first YouTube video you remember watching?
