Government Looking Into Automating Games Rating Process

The battle for an R18+ rating for games was a long and hard road, and the number of games actually rated R18+ has really only been a trickle. That may well have been down to the speed with which the ratings board can actually classify games, but that could be about to change with proposals to fully automate game classification ratings.

Mark over at Kotaku has the full story, which covers how the rules are about to change. This won’t be an R18+ fight all over again, either, with all the relevant state ministers agreeing to the changes, which could affect how and when we get full console and mobile games classified. To date, mobile games have escaped the classification board’s rulings, but that may change quite quickly.
