Pepsi’s Plastic Bottle Gets Its First Redesign Since 1997

Pepsi has redesigned the shape of its 475mL and 600mL plastic bottles for the first time in 16 years. AdAge reports that the new bottles will begin shipping in April, but it could take until the end of the year for the turnover to be seen in store refrigerators.

The snazzy new shape (pictured above) sure has a refreshing plastic swirl to it, huh? It’s more lively than the dated look from 1997. But, while it’s certainly a departure, it’s also a tribute to some of the earliest glass Pepsi packages, which featured a similar swirl:

The new look will be available in Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max varieties; a special 350mL glass swirl bottle will be in select stores, but only for full-calorie Pepsi. Eventually, the look is going to find itself spread across all of Pepsi’s brands. But don’t let that slimmer-looking profile trick your brain. The stuff inside it is still no good for you.
