Facebook’s mobile app on the whole is a pretty disappointing affair. The only version of the app that shows some character is the Windows Phone client, and even then it’s still a bit lacklustre. Thankfully, some Aussies are on the case, and have produced this beautiful piece of concept art that — if it were real — might get me using Facebook more.
The concept has come out of the good folks over at 1800PocketPC, and takes strong design cues straight out of Windows Phone 8′s own home screen by displaying notifications, photos and status updates in tiles rather than presenting it as a straight list.
Go check out more concept images for a reimagined Facbook app over at 1800PocketPC. Keep up the good work, lads. [1800PocketPC]

Facebook app needs a new face like this one for all platforms! Plus white backgrounds just kill our batteries..
hadn't really thought about that until i saw it was mostly grey and dark blue ?
White backgrounds kill our batteries... Your information is backwards. Technically a black background uses more power as the controller has to turn apply current to polarise those pixels to make them block the light. But let me make something clear, polarising pixels uses very little current (talking nano to microamps).
Not with AMOLED, it doesn't, only with backlit displays.
SNAP!
Was unaware we were talking OLED displays. My bad. Your 100% correct if its an OLED display.
He's talking OLED.

In most WP apps they will use the background and/or hilight colour you use as your theme :)
I hope someone makes this.
Looks pretty cool. Unfortunately for WPhone users they are in the catch 22 situation of Devs not wanting to spend time on apps when there are comparitively few users and users not being that keen to switch to a platofrm with poor app support.
It woudln't work liek that - drop-down menus go full-screen when you tap them, which I find quite annoying sometimes.
FB need to do a whole resigned of not only their App, but their site as well.
I'll be honest I don't like the look of that at all for Facebook. Sure it fits with the Windows Phone theme with the tiles and all, but for facebook it looks a little messy. But each to their own.
Oh man yes please!
Too much blue. too busy. don't like.
I still like these iA concepts from 2006... http://informationarchitects.net/blog/ias-2006-facebook-designs-redesigned/
I loathe the current Microsoft-based FB app on my Nokia Lumia 920.
* auto refreshes to the very top of your news feed all by itself every minute or so, forcing you to re-scroll down past everything you've already read to find your spot again. Then it does it again. And maddeningly again. This is compounded further by:
* news feed ignores things you've hidden & shows all friends' game badges etc that you've manually blocked/hidden over the years
* news feed also shows all posts from friends you've blocked/hidden or selected "only show important posts" (we all know those serial posters)
* Screen usage. My Nokia Lumia 920's screen is 96mm tall. There's a permanent 25mm border/bar at the top of the news feed & an 8mm bottom border at the bottom with 4 buttons. That's 33mm of wasted screen real estate - over ONE THIRD. I can read TWO items in my news feed before having to scroll.
* when a friend shares another post/pic and you want to view the comments on their share, it shows you the comments of the original post instead of your friend's share
* No easy-to-see way to "like" posts directly from the news feed. Figured out you have to press & hold on the post, which then gives you the option to "like"
* Push notifications come through noticeably slower on WP8 than they do Android & iOS. My Android phone will make my notification sound, then 60secs later or more my WP8 phone will make it. Not great for FB chat.
WP8 uses need a FB app written by FaceBook, not by Microsoft, that brings the same look & feel & feature set of the excellent iOS and Android apps! At home in bed I resort to using FB on my old Android phone instead of using my new WP8 phone.
The WP8 app reviews text box has a character limit, so I cut my thoughts down to the following. Feel free to copy & paste!
-------------
I loathe this app. So much worse that Android/iOS versions.
* INFURIATING News Feed (NF) constantly auto-refreshes to top. Forced to re-scroll past everything you've already read to find your spot again.
* NF shows all blocked/hidden friends/game badges etc. More scrolling between auto-refreshes.
* NF shows entire 1000-word+ posts. No "show more" option.
* TERRIBLE screen usage. Nokia 920 screen is 96mm tall. NF has permanent 25mm top & 8mm bottom border = 33mm (over 1/3!) wasted screen real estate! Can only read 2 NF items before having to scroll.
* When a friend shares someone else's post/pic, can't view/add comments on their share, only to the original post.
* Unintuitive "press & hold" way to "like" posts in NF.
* Push notifications ~60secs slower to arrive on WP8 than Android/iOS (bad for FB chat).
* Can't double-tap pics to zoom. Have to pinch. Supposed to be a one-handed app.
WP8 needs a FB app written by FB themselves, not by Microsoft. We want the same look/feel/feature set as Android/iOS versions!
* The notification system is minimal at best
* Cannot post messages / photos in groups
I'd rather the windows phone facebook app was more like the iOS and Android apps. The current Microsoft made app is god damn awful, and concepts like this aren't how I use my facebook.
Looks nice but somewhat pointless post.. Facebook for WP is extremely early in it's infancy, mainly released just to have something to offer. That said, I do like their client a lot more than say the Android one.
