JJ Abrams Is Working On Portal And Half Life Movies With Valve

First Star Trek, then Star Wars now Portal and Half Life: JJ Abrams is quickly becoming the nexus for all things geek, after today confirming he’s working with Valve and its head, Gabe Newell, to create movies based on the game studio’s most popular titles. I think I need to sit down.

Abrams told Polygon today that the project to turn Valve’s games into movies is “as real as anything is in Hollywood”, with the pair entering negotiations to bring on writers and other partners to make it happen.

He added that he’s keen not to screw up two perfect gaming universes with crappy movie adaptations, as so often happens:

We’re also aware of the cautionary tales of movies that became games and vice versa. Our goal here to is to treat the world Valve has created in both these properties like anyone would a book or some great story that comes from a pitch or original script — just to treat it with the respect they treat their games and their players with…

On top of all that movie talk, Abrams has said that he wants to work with Valve in its wheelhouse to make a video game. Everything’s coming up geek. [Polygon]
