I'm Not So Sure About Bungie's New Game...

Destiny. It certainly sounds epic when you whisper it into someone's ear who didn't know you were there in the first place, but when I really think about Bungie's latest effort, it has me raising my eyebrows.

As you can tell, it's called Destiny and it's the latest game development from the gaming legends who birthed the Halo franchise, Bungie.

It's like they all sat down and said to themselves "Right, now that Halo's done with, we can create anything we want. Literally anything. So. Who's for another futuristic space shooter?"

What do you think of the teaser for Destiny?

Sooo. did Bungie really like killzone? So are they mashing HALO and Killzone together. Some of the designs remind me of both. Between scenery and character design they look erily similar.

too ealy to tell, but I will monitor it's progression...

symphonic music - making things sound cooler than they are.

it would be awesome if they pull it off and doesnt turn into a duke nukem moment. all the hype with a grand fail to greet consumers.

I've loved BUNGIE since the Marathon days. This looks amazing with a high degree of AI. Count me in!

I like the look of it too. Asking for Bungie to make something that isn't a futuristic space shooter is like asking Arnotts to make something that's not biscuits.

marathon was amazing and scared the shit out of me as a kid. so much fun rocking it on the ol' LC575. Then halo came along and terrified me all over again (the library/flood levels playing it at 2am all jacked up on sugar and salt) as a teenager and now perhaps destiny will do the same for me as an adult!

I loved Bungie too when they produced Marathon for Macs, then they promised us this game called Halo. It was in development for ages, or so it seemed. then the unthinkable happened...the Dark Side took them over and they released Halo solely for X-box (and later PCs) ...such betrayal!

Not really excited but am bound to buy it once the price comes down

Come on Luke, it would be incredibly foolish of Bungie to move away from their clear skillset in FPS and in the space theme. That doesn't mean this will be based on Halo, or anything like it.
Any more than a thousand other games that are sci fi FPS.

This is how this will unfold. Destiny will turn out to be a pretty good game. About 6 months from now we will see real gameplay demos. There will be positive reception all round. Shortly after that Microsoft will announce that Destiny will be a Xbox 720 / Windows Phone exclusive.

Sadly, around the same time Apple will have released it's fabled Apple iTV. It's a smart TV with iOS, comes with a controller and a ton of developers already signed up to provide exclusive content.

I'm not sure that many (if any) people who currently game on anything more than a phone would ever back Apple for any gaming platform. Nor would devs on the main platforms throw themselves fully behind a company with no experience up against MS, Sony and the PC market.

Epic scope for the game, can't wait, this will be awesome I'm sure of it!

Interesting bit of bungie trivia, this clip as you see at 15 seconds in is titled as "Bungie Presents: Pathways Out Of Darkness." Their first game(fps) was called pathways into darkness. Cool throw back/homage.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to it, but it really sounds like "No no, THIS is what happens after The Covenant find Earth ..."

    Desolation? Check
    Spartans? Check
    Flight Sim? Check
    Requiem Like Orb? Check?

Does anyone know how to start a petition? I want to make sure they release it on PC this time.

A FPS with smartphone updates ?

Let's see what they can do with it.

I like the idea. Makes a really social and connected experience. I like the look if it. Might be time to dust off the old Xbox. I never got into Halo, but this looks nice. Still, would rather it come to PS3 (Highly doubt) but what ever happens, I will watch this and might pick it up for the 360.

also, Did the trailer remind anyone of the Oblivion movie trailer?
