This picture was recently released by North Korea’s state media, and it shows Kim Jong-un holding a meeting with his security advisers just last week. It also shows Kim’s phone close at hand — but can you help us work out exactly what it is?
So far, a spokesman for South-Korean Samsung has distanced his company from Jong-un, declaring “It’s not a Samsung phone.” A Seoul-based government official has also explained that South Korea’s intelligence agency has analysed the image and concluded it is an HTC handset — though the Taiwanese manufacturer hasn’t confirmed it to be true. One thing is certain: it ain’t no iPhone.
If it is an HTC phone, that might be a politically savvy move: it would mean Jong-un isn’t endorsing either US products or those from South Korea. But with no manufacturer leaping forward to claim the phone as their own, we’re going to have to take matters into our own hands. So let’s scrutinise this image together and work out exactly what Kim’s phone of choice is. [The Telegraph]
