Aldi To Launch Its Own Pre-Paid Mobile Service

First Kogan Mobile, now Aldi is getting in on the cheap pre-paid mobile game. News leaked tonight suggests that the discount supermarket will put its own pre-paid MVNO offering out to market next week, with others pointing to the fact that it will run from Telstra’s wholesale Next G network.

Ausdroid cleverly caught the news that Aldi was planning to launch its own mobile offerings, pointing to a website that hosted a countdown timer that expired next Wednesday morning.

The rumour mill is running hot right now around what’s set to be dubbed AldiMobile, with Ausdroid pointing out that the Whois registrant is the head of Medion Australia — the cheap electronics brand that Aldi sources its smartphone, laptop and tablet deals from.

Meanwhile, Whirlpool Forums is buzzing with the news, as one poster suggests that the AldiMobile MVNO will run on the same Telstra Wholesale Next G offering Kogan Mobile uses. We’ll have to wait for next week for all the details, though. [Ausdroid]
