This NSFW Video Is Everything That's Wrong With Silicon Valley

What you're about to watch is a real video advertisement created by a real venture capital fund in Silicon Valley, ostensibly a real place in the United States. If you didn't hate the startup world before, you'll now instantly die.

According to TechCrunch, Runa Capital is "a $US135M technology-focused venture capital firm" that's invested in a bunch of crap you've never heard of: "Nginx, Talkbits, Jelastic, Metabar, Travelmenu, BigTime® Software, Ecwid, StopTheHacker, Capptain, B2B-Center, Infratel, LinguaLeo, Dnevnik.ru." Haha, look at all of those made up words. Runa Capital also reflects the awfulness of its environment: that misogyny, work-obsession, obliviousness, cutthroat-ism, alienation, and generally mercenariness are virtues. Virtues that will lead to money. Virtues that will lead to your bad idea for a bad app being acquired by good Facebook.

The only thing more offensive than this video is the tragedy that it'll likely appeal to a lot of Californian dorks who fancy themselves the next Rich Startup Dork. Silicon Valley is an economic influenza, and this video will sneeze in your face. [TechCrunch]

I liked it too. hand me the charger!!! classic...

    Nothing wrong with it.

Telling the truth isn't the same as promoting its perpetuation.

Subversive communication is hard enough within the business world.

Journalists think the world revolves around feeling bad about the things they write about so the kids of tomorrow can change things.

Wrong timescale. Real change is about taking the essence of a problem seriously and laughing at the rest so you still have the energy to fix it.

Devastatingly accurate. Except that I always charge my laptop before sex. Who do you think reads this blog, grandmothers?

You're right to dis VCs, though. Piranhas

That was awful in two ways.

    1. That guy was a piece of s#$t. Would have been more realistic to have him coding by himself as I'm sure most people wouldnt put up with that bullsh#$t.

    2. As an ad it totally failed. What was the product? What does the firm do? Why should I give a flying f#$k?

Actually, that bullshit is reality. Most people deal with managers who make biz to biz marketing decisions that screw with the code quality.

The product is investing with a company that understands you. This is what works with all products.

So why didnt I understand that it was an investment firm from the ad? Because it wasn't clear, it failed as an ad.

Why would anyone do a job where you have to fix code all the time! while your having sex? That guy looks like he enjoys it more than anything else he was at. He is a piece of shit still

Personally enjoyed it with or without the sex tbqh...

Was the sex bit necessary? I assume it was just for viral potential..

I really didn't mind it at all. What was i supposed to be offended/disgusted about?

It's an (American) ad that is competing for attention, nothing new here - loud, a little obnoxious with some shock value thrown in to make you sit up and take notice.

Why do you have to bring anti-Americanism into the conversation? Bad enough Mr. Biddle's article attempts to demonize VC and Silicon Valley.
