Toshiba’s New Excite 10 SE Looks Like A Sweet Tablet On A Budget

We’ve been digging Toshiba’s line of Excite tablets, and the newest member of the family has a lot to offer. Not only does it appear to measure up to its competition on specs, but this 10-inch tablet only costs $US350! Colour us intrigued (which is kind of a brownish red).

The Excite 10 SE has a 10.1-inch AutoBrite HD screen (1280×800), and a 1.5GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. It has stereo speakers with SRS Premium Voice Pro (though they’re on the bottom of the device, which could lead to lap-muffling, if you’re not careful), dual cameras, 16GB of built in storage, and yes, a microSD card slot for expanding the built-in storage for all you content/app hoarders out there.

It will launching running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), which includes Google Now, and is very smooth thanks to Project Butter. It is 10mm thick and weighs 640 grams. Not bad, but for $US350 it’s something we’re definitely going to want to take a good hard look at. That’s 50 bucks cheaper than the ageing iPad 2, and 100 bucks cheaper than the last Excite. Toshiba’s last batch of tablets were really well made, they were just priced high enough that no one really looked at them. This could change things. It will be available starting December 6. Australian availability is yet to be announced. [Toshiba]
