Fashion Takes A Turn For The Ornithological With Bird Skull Jewellery

Marisa Rand has no need for precious stones. That’s because this Calvert County, MD artist crafts her jewellery from the skulls of birds. Morbid? Maybe. Awesome? Definitely.

Her pieces — which include rings, ear rings and necklaces — aren’t made from the actual skulls themselves, mind you. They’re actually resin copies made from a silicone mould which is shrunken down from the skull’s natural, attached-to-the-bird’s-neck size.

Her skulls come from Sparrows, Magpies, Crows, and Parakeets — there’s even a raccoon femur key chain. Prices range from $US7 to $US20, though her Etsy page is currently having a Dollar Off sale. [Etsy]
