This Giant 6-Inch ZTE Windows Phone Is Not A Joke

This is it, guys. Smartphones are now significantly bigger than before, and it's China's fault. China and its monstrous 5.9-inch Windows Phone screen, which is baffling and probably warrants a nuclear strike from the US. This is happening.

The device, by cheap-o-possibly-spying-on-us phone manufacturer ZTE, sports a 1920x1080 resolution and "DTS audio technology" which means absolutely completely nothing because it's a phone and not a theatre.

I've been wanting good, small phones for a while now, so I guess I'll just buy a Galaxy Note, because that's a small phone now. Phones are becoming horrible. Blame China. Blame ourselves. This is the end.

Recently I was in Seoul, and was surprised by the amount of people (especially girls) carrying around what I presume was a Galaxy Note (it was definitely something made by Samsung, as I could see the logo). Unfairly extrapolating from what I saw in one Asian city, I am going to make a bold assumption that large phones sell well in Asia, which is why we're seeing so many of them being pumped out by Asian phone manufacturers.

And you thought that the 920 was going to be heavy...

I remember reading something somewhere that in (I think it was) India, larger phones are popular because they consider them to be a status symbol.

While we may consider large phones to be stupid, other cultures dont follow our line of thought.

I'd imagine an iPad with phone capabilities (Max iPad?) would sell really well.

People actually like big smart phones because they have more uses than a phone. I know it's hard to believe right.

Yes, it is. I can't think of any use for a tablet over my phone, that's for sure.

What about it? My tablet lives in an airtight box 99% of the time. My phone is much better for doing all the things tablets do and for the rest we have proper computers.

I'm a fool for misreading your post.
            My apologises.

Once again Sam going on and on about something big and how he doesn't like it and it is the end, the world is over oh noes!

Get a clue. Girls love these things and they sell well. If you do not like something don't put your personal opinion into it =/

Also a high rez and good audio on a phablet does matter...As you can use it for music / tv etc -_-

Yep, Girls do love big ;)

People in Korea watch TV on their phones. They've been doing it for years. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a big driver and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same in China.

Something that wasn't mentioned in the article - judging by the WP logo on the back of that phone, it's running WP7, not 8. Which either means it's been out for a while (good reporting, Giz!) or will be irrelevant as soon as it's released (in which case you should be laughing at it, not getting your knickers in a twist). Or of course it's just a placeholder and will be changed. But let's not let logic get in the way here.

Plenty of WP8 prototypes have the WP7 logo. WP7 does not, and never will support 1080p resolutions.

Its running 1080p so it is running on windows phone 8. Though the pixel quality will not be very great. It still cant beat apples retina display. Which only we can do.

So... holy crap. The resolution is the same as my laptop's screen... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?!
