EA Caught Disgracefully Rehashing and Reselling Last Year’s FIFA for Wii

It’s always been a bit of running joke to claim game publisher Electronic Arts flogs the same sports games to punters every year, changing the strips a bit and updating the player rotas to earn itself an easy $70. Only this year, that’s exactly what it’s done with the Wii version of FIFA 13.

FIFA 13 for Nintendo’s Wii console shows some remarkable similarities to last year’s FIFA 12, with reviewers discovering that FIFA 13 has literally zero new game modes or features not already present in the 2012 version of the code sold to Wii owners last year, apart from the usual updating of kits and, yes, the excitement of doing it all again while listening to a different licensed soundtrack.

The amazing rip-off was exposed by Nintendo Gamer, which has put together a shocking side-by-side gallery confirming that EA is indeed selling literally the exact same game as it did last year, with the same in-game dialogue, character models and menu screens. Utterly shameful, and yet more proof that game publishers think their target audience is a bunch of idiots that only exist to be milked of cash year after year.

And people wonder why the home console industry is in the shit. [Nintendo Gamer via Wired]

Isn't having the player wearing blue in the title screen enough?

    What else do you want?

...do the players in 2013 have slightly different haircuts? That's a pretty neat update.

PES did the same thing a while back, they managed to break selling records too at that time, although I cant remember exactly what year it was, all the changes were, the music and.....thats about it.

Sure when EA do it, it's a rip off. When Apple does it, it's revolutionary

I was waiting for someone to make a Apple comment, sigh.

LOL....WHqat about Samsung, its practically doing the same thing, even that boring old BlackBerry, their all the same mate.

Samsung release a variety of phones, and they vary in specifications as per their intended use. I don't think it's analogous at all.

Least there's no Samsung to steal all of EA's games.

      Sigh....

and again with apple rubbish. someone has an issue.

    Well said rob!!!

Who thinks the home game industry is in the shit? That's a fairly opinionated statement with no real supporting argument.

I'm more shocked EA put the game out to begin with. I can't see too many people scrambling to buy third party games for the wii.

Yep, wrong Giz site - on US it's a little Apple-y, but the AU site is a bit more impartial. Anyway, shut up Rob.

I dl FIFA13 for iPhone as well and it is pretty close to 12. A few updates here and there but nothing groundbreaking. mainly just new menu's.

"It’s always been a bit of running joke to claim game publisher Electronic Arts flogs the same sports games to punters every year, changing the strips a bit and updating the player rotas to earn itself an easy $70."
Yees? Have they been doing anything else? At least nothing that justifies a 70$ price tag. Maybe something like 20$ but not more.

I think it's revolutionary and amazing. 300 new features I hear (one different colour jersey for each player)

This is for people who not only buy but play sports games though so it seems understandable to me.
    Sports games.
These are games... about sports... that people play on a console. Yeah.

There is a genuine level of strategy and gameplay challenge, but a great majority of the buyers won't be the sharpest tools in the box.

god this is about EA not the old Apple samsung debate go fight it out some where else. as for the buyers of this games as ozoneocean said but a great majority of the buyers won't be the sharpest tools in the box. i will just add hell most of them are probley spoons

i thought they were talking about call of duty
