Apple Delays Australian Turn-By-Turn Navigation To November

When iOS 6 arrived, we soon discovered it was seemingly easier to launch turn-by-turn navigation in Namibia before Australia. Apple’s head of iOS, Scott Forstall reassured that his team just wanted to get the data right; sit tight ‘till October. And you know, all that other stuff. Today, that date has been delayed again (to November sometime), and we’ve learned that Forstall is leaving Apple, replaced by Jony Ive himself.

Related? Doubt it. Here are some more likely reasons for the shake-up. [Apple via 9to5mac] Thanks Serrels!

October no more...

    I blame Scott Forstall.

Should tie in nicely with the 920 launch - which has fully functional maps!

        May as well
Call it a Zune. Won't last.

    Booo!! Bad Scott Forstall =(

Namibia's towns can be counted on 2 hands. And they not nearly as anal with red tape and regulations like Australia.
    Go figure.

    Boooo!

The worst thing is if you follow the link to the apple site, Australia is now the only country left on the list of: coming soon.

Nice to hear this on the last day of month, thanks apple.

Tomorrow is the last day if the month buddy.

Hands up all those who didn't see this coming.

More importantly, all hands up for anyone who actually cared!

      no one? thought so

It's definitely a disappointment, considering it was meant to be a major benefit of Apple Maps over Google Maps on iOS. Of course if you've already moved over to a third party mapping provider, it's a bit of a moot point, but still doesn't help Apple's position that Apple maps are intended as a crowdsourcing effort with no one using it.

Let google do it! ( Fix It ) Simple!.

If this voice thing doesnt work well I will seriously be dissapointed with Apple.

I hate to admit it but Iv been considering the $60 tomtom AP as I use maps Alot and they have been very hard to read / follow while driving. grrr.

Why don't you get Maps+? it doesn't have turn by turn but i has the old style google maps you know and love and it's free. works for me.

Cheers for the tip mate but,
Iv just downloaded Sygic maps, theyre $29.00 but theyve got everything like voice, 3d etc and they work offline too.
If they turn out to be crappy no doubt ill DL maps+ aswel.

I've already given up on Apple maps.
I bought a power cable for my 4 year old GPS, updated it to 2012 maps and it's been more accurate then the damn iPhone anyway.

This is getting quite ridiculous, ios6 (in beta) was realeased ~july. Why is Australia the last of the countries to get it, and why has it taken so long.
Maps coverage in my area is particularly awful, even though I've received flyover view in my area.
Apple really needs to fix up its data in its australian maps.
If there was an editing feature like googles, even if they didnt release it to the general public - at least ios developers, it would speed up fixing their maps heaps!!!

my turn by turn is working!
    ip4 - ios6 - jailbreak (semi tethered)
