When the Yamaha YAS-101 came out last year, we marveled at the perfect balance between the sound quality afforded by its full-range drivers and a price point that wouldn’t break the bank. Now the successor — the YAS-201 — is here and instead of packing its bass technology into the bar itself, it has been split off into a wireless sub.
Packing two 2.1-inch full-range drivers, a 6.5-inch subwoofer, and the ability to reproduce 7.1-channel sound, the bar offers 160 watts in total (60W for the two speakers and 100W for the sub). And while it may not feature the 22-speaker array of the new YSP-4300 (also announced today), it only costs $US450. Because if you’re considering dropping two grand on a soundbar, maybe you should just start considering a proper home theatre. [Yamaha]
