Hoyts To Beat Netflix To The Local Punch With Movie Streaming Service

Here at Giz AU, we pine day after day for awesome things like Netflix and Hulu to come to Australia to make our lives more fun. Local cinema chain Hoyts might be beating the two to the punch, though, today revealing plans to launch a streaming movie and TV service dubbed Hoyts Stream.

Launching in early next year, Hoyts Stream is promising to bring movie and TV show streaming to multiple devices.

New releases will come to Hoyts Stream on exactly the same day that DVDs land in stores (so no early release content for you), and “classic” movies and TV shows will also be available to stream.

There’s no information on pricing just yet, but Hoyts says it will offer a pay-as-you-go subscription, and is planning to introduce and all-you-can-eat subscription tier at a later date in 2013.

At the same time as the company launches Hoyts Stream, it will also rebrand its mobile movie rental business, Oovie, as a new service with a “new direction” called Hoyts Kiosk.

Is this the streaming future we’re all dreaming of?
