Apple yesterday revealed that the iPhone was birthed from a 2003 research project for the iPad. This CAD-rendered design, which shares a lot in common with the iPad 1, seems to be part of that. But the hard edges along the face give this a different flair; along with the curved metal back, this design looks positively space-age. It’s also slightly reminiscent of the HTC One X. Steve revealed long ago that the iPhone was birthday from iPad, He said on an interview a while ago, I will try to find the video.
He spoke about how he sent his R&D team to come up with a multi touch screen for a tablet device, and when he had it he felt it would work perfectly for a phone.
They would have known that touch screen smartphone's were slowly becoming more popular, and knew the screen would give them a massive leap ahead the competition.
