Prizes

The Olympus OM-D EM-5 is designed to make the jump into DSLR easy. With Live View functionality that lets you see exactly what a shot will look like before you take it, coupled with a 5-axis in-body image stabiliser for shooting in low light, and a retro design inspired by the first OM-D from 1972, the EM-5 lets you capture some beautiful shots. More at Olympus.

We’re excited to be able to give another camera away to Gizmodo’s Shooting Challenge faithful.

The kit you’re playing for is valued at $1499, and includes the OM-D EM-5 body and 12-50mm lens, both of which are weatherproof so you can feel confident when Mother Nature turns on you.

Note: Linking friends from your social networks to the Gizmodo voting page is e encouraged, however, use of “vote farming” sites including (but not limited to) GetOnlineVotes or links directly to polldaddy.com will result in disqualification. The goal is to grow the Giz Shooting Community in the fairest way possible.

Also a reminder to please be respectful and constructive if leaving a comment about any photo.

Was shot on an Canon 5dmk2 with 70-200 lens. 1/50, f2.8 , iso 2500.
This image of one of the members of an up coming band called snakadaktal. Lighting was really fast paced and made me break a sweat trying to keep up. Would say it was a good first attempt.

While I enjoy the company of my friends, I also like the company of animals and pets. You can’t communicate with them, yet there is a mutual trust.

This is a pic of a neighbourhood cat. I’ve spent a bit of time with him just playing.

However, recently I finally met his owner. While I was happy to finally know the cat’s name, I was also told he had a turmor removed a while ago and only has a maximum of a year to live. From then on, I’ve tried to visit him more. I had to use a fast shutter speed and large aperture since he’s a bit camera shy.

I’m glad his still alive, but the daily play runs have now turned into a depressing “sick visit”.

I took this photo from the balcony at the Tivoli during the Beautiful Girls gig on Sat the 11th. I used my Samsung S2 8MP camera phone with ISO200 and +1.5 exposure.

STREET ARTIST:

Sydney, Martin Place.
There are several small details I like in this picture, I did position her in the centre of the scene, as an actor on the stage, the dark vignette on the borders places more light on the subject.
I like the guy’s foot movement, fast enough on 1/125 to show his action, the white hat on the upper right that stands out the black.
The background is Martin Place’s small waterfall.
I love the added interest of all the small objects she keeps near her feet.
The only software used is Aperture.

I went to see one of my favourite Aussie metal bands Ouroboros at Venom in Sydney on the weekend, got right down the front in the action (where I got some bruises for souvenirs) and snapped away…
The lighting wasn’t the greatest so I got to try out the high iso performance on my new D3S, I was impressed.
This band rocks! If you love your metal they are well worth looking up!!

Nothing inspiring to show this week, Rather depressing really: I spend 2 hours a day commuting on public transport and there are so many more of us who live like this. Our lives become a blur of people and machines we don’t care about but we still spend so much time together.

Secret Walls is a live street art battle held globally. The battles have two artists facing off, paint and marker on fresh white walls, 90 minutes on the clock. Watching Ben Brown and Pudler’s images come to life, line by line, layer upon layer, in that small space of time was undoubtedly impressive. Add great company, awesome tracks, the chilled-out vibe and some beer if you like– it’s an easy Wednesday night out in the urban art scene

Of all the photos taken of this firedancer yesterday, this one is my favourite. It’s asymmetrical shape and the fact that he is anonymous by facing the other direction appeals more to me than the regular front on, circular twirling shots. I deliberately stopped it down to take out the background and increase the moodiness.

F8, .5s, ISO320 at 70mm.

Live….Music? Nah.. Live Wires! Electricity! Good excuse to make my first home studio setup shot.

There just happened to be a few skydivers down the beach and I had my camera and took this shot. The man was probably in his 70’s – maybe 80’s – and had a crowd of around 30 people waiting for him to land. A true live moment.

Here’s a bit of Live Action from Mt Mee in Qld. A good time out with mates and our bikes, up close and personal.

This is A shot of live gig i went to Friday night and the Casino in Brisbane. I took it on my trusty Galaxy s2. I have just done a simple crop and convert to black and white.

I’m on holiday in Amsterdam currently and hadn’t found the right photo to submit for any of the previous challenges, even when I was still back in Australia. I was wandering around Dam Square when I spotted a busker making huge bubbles and children gleefully bursting them. Of the 100 photos or so I took of the bubbles, this one captures the moment the children burst the bubble but it is still partially intact. I’m proud of it and think it captures the Live idea.

During my first job interview I was asked what my dream job was, I answered, “Rock Star”. I was young, naive and loved listening and making music! I got the job, but my musical career never saw me leaving the garage…

Technically this is blurry and poorly exposed, but I wanted to take a photo that captured the same energy I see when going to see musicians playing live.

This is a single exposure with only minimal tweaks and cropping.

The Roulettes were doing a show at the Point Cook airbase and I was desperate to go. The weather was horrible, but I was hoping I’d get some dramatic shots if the sun poked through the clouds. While I didn’t get exactly what I was after, I was pretty happy with what I got. Using a D7000 and 70-200 lens, the dark clouds and white smoke from the Roulettes made for a great shot. I’m glad I went down, was well worth it!

Reaching for the Sherrin…

Taken at the Adelaide Crows vs Fremantle game on Saturday at AAMI Stadium.
It was a great game to watch, but Freo would have been well and truly taken out of the game if the Crows had kicked straighter!
