Is This Inductive Stand Worth Twice What An iPad Costs?

The convenience of being able to charge a device without having to hunt down a power cord is certainly appealing. But convenience isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you gaze upon Strut’s new LaunchPort iPad charging system.

The triple-chromed steel base secures your iPad through a set of neodymium magnets, ensuring it’s always properly aligned for inductive charging. But the LaunchPort system only works when your iPad is trapped inside a clunky looking case available in four hideous finishes — walnut burl, carbon fibre, sparkling pink and even a leopard print option. When it’s available it will cost a ridiculous $US1250, so who would opt for this when they could just buy a second backup iPad they can leave charging instead? [Strut via Chip Chick]
