What To Look Out For At The 2012 San Diego Comic-Con

So much goes on at the annual San Diego Comic-Con every year that it can be tough to keep up. That’s why we’ve put together this guide complete with everything you need to keep look out for over the next few days.

Movies

Sony will be there premiering new content for three massive movies coming up: Total Recall, Looper and Elysium.

Tarantino’s latest romp, Django Unchained will have its coming out party at Comic-Con, with fans getting a new sneak peek at film footage.

The new Superman movie, Man of Steel will let its first trailer into the wild, as will the new Peter Jackson epic The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

We’ve already seen some concept art from Iron Man 3, but at Comic-Con, we’ll be gifted some new details from the producer, Kevin Feige.

I imagine I’ll get a bunch of hate mail for including this, but you’ll be able to get a sneak peek at footage from Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part Two tomorrow from 12:45pm local time.

TV

Futurama fans will score exclusive footage from the new season at this year’s Comic-Con. Look out for that on Sunday.

The Doctor will emerge on Monday as the cast and creators of the rebooted Doctor Who take the stage to show off the new season.

Star Trek: The Next Generation is in the final stages of its amazing journey onto Blu-ray, and the retouchers will be at Comic-Con tomorrow from 2pm local time to show off more epic footage like this:

The creators of the show that can’t be killed — The Simpsons — will drop a 45-minute look at some new material coming up in the show’s 24th season.

Dexter ended on a massive cliffhanger last season — one that was almost better than the finale before it (I’m trying to be spoiler-friendly here). At 6pm local time tomorrow, Showtime will give us the first two minutes of new season premiere.

Also during the Dexter panel, we’ll be given a look at the trailer for the new season of Homeland. Squee!

The gang from Community will be there to talk about the fourth season of the show.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Firefly, and Comic-Con is celebrating by bringing all the brown coats together for a reunion Q&A with the cast and the geek messiah Joss Whedon. To tide you over, here’s a super cut of all of the Chinese spoken in the show’s short-lived run on TV.

Breaking Bad fans will get a peek at season five, followed by a cast Q&A.

Games

Tomorrow at 10:45am (local time), Epic Games will be showing off Fortnite gameplay details, premiered by none other than the studio’s design director Cliff Bleszinksi.

Also tomorrow afternoon, Blizzard will be kicking off its product showcase for 2012/2013. Designers, writers and artists will be there talking everything from Diablo through to Starcraft and World of Warcraft expansion packs.

Assassin’s Creed III will be shown off tomorrow afternoon too in what Ubisoft is calling a “live stage demo”. Does that mean live assassinations in civil war garb, or is it just a gameplay demo? Either way, I’d watch it. Alex Hutchinson, ACIII’s creative director, will be the one presenting the demo so we’re bound to see something great.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn is the title everyone is holding their collective breath for. Will it suck in the hands of a new studio or will it rise triumphantly through our expectations? We’ll find out tomorrow at 4:45pm local time when we see the world premiere of the game trailer and some sweet multi-player footage.

Attention all fighting fans: on Saturday you can expect to hear some news out of the Tekken and Street Fighter franchises, with Katsuhiro Harada, Yoshinori Ono and Omar Kendall uniting to talk about what Comic-Con is hailing as “surprise reveals from upcoming titles”.

Saturday will also see a new in-game trailer for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us premiere. I want that game in my life so bad.

What do you want to see come out of this year’s Comic-Con?
