This Forest Fire Can Be Seen From Space

The forest fires that forced 3000 residents from their homes late last month were visible from space at the time. NASA has used a one of its handy spacecraft to bring us this spectacular image.

NASA writes of the image:

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image on June 30, 2012. Red outlines approximate the locations of active fires.

Sure it looks good from space, but our best wishes go out to those fighting these crazy fires. It’s still serious stuff, after all. [NASA]
