Roswell UFO Crashed 65 Years Ago Today

It’s been 65 years since the crash of the UFO (or officially, a weather balloon) in Roswell, New Mexico. 65 years since Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) public information officer Walter Haut told the world that the military had recovered a flying saucer. 65 years since aliens have been on our planet, or alternatively 65 years of conspiracy theories.

Of course, as the story (or conspiracy) goes, the RAAF retracted Haut’s statement saying it was merely a weather balloon that had been recovered and not a “flying disk”, as Haut had termed it. People forgot about the incident for more than 30 years until Maj Jesse Marcel, who was involved in the original recovery of the crash debris in 1947, told the media that he believed that the military was covering up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. More details (or more conspiracy theories) came out talking about multiple crash sites, secret military operations, with new witnesses somehow corroborating stories. It sparked a renewed interest in aliens and UFOs and Roswell and Area 51 that though may not be real, has definitely invaded every bit of our pop culture. Aliens or no aliens, whatever happened 65 years ago in Roswell, New Mexico still affects us today.

And the conspiracy theory is still kicking, even though the military issued a report saying the Roswell case was closed in the mid 690s. It sure doesn’t help when ex-CIA agents like Chase Brandon are doing interviews after their service about the incident. Brandon, a 35-year CIA agent, recently told the Huffington Post:

“It was not a damn weather balloon — it was what it was billed when people first reported it. It was a craft that clearly did not come from this planet, it crashed and I don’t doubt for a second that the use of the word ‘remains’ and ‘cadavers’ was exactly what people were talking about.”

He said he made the discovery in a secret section of the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. He had stumbled across a box that had the word Roswell on it and when he went through the box’s content, he found:

“Some written material and some photographs, and that’s all I will ever say to anybody about the contents of that box. But it absolutely, for me, was the single validating moment that everything I had believed, and knew that so many other people believed had happened, truly was what occurred.”

65 years later and more fuel is being added to the fire. Aliens are the best.
