Huawei’s new Ascend P1 smartphone is coming, but only to Dick Smith with an outright price tag and not to carriers.
The Ascend P1 will set you back $499 for a handset that sports a dual-core 1.5Ghz Cortex A9 processor, an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p video capture, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, all wrapped into a 7.69mm-thick chassis with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen.
To be honest, looking at the handset, it’s not completely dissimilar from the Samsung Galaxy SII. We’ll hopefully be going hands on with it soon so we can see what it’s like under the skin.
Huawei can’t tell us why it’s not going to carriers. It hinted that the device might arrive as a subsidised option in future, nothing yet.
It’s now on the shelves for you to pick up if you’re dead set on the device.
It’s certainly cheaper than other handsets like the Samsung Galaxy SIII and the HTC One XL, but it doesn’t exactly have the same brand cred in Australia. Or does it? Would you buy the Ascend P1?
