Bad Date Rescue App Rescues You From eHarmony’s Algorithm Fails

There are countless ways to escape a bad date, from remembering it’s your grandma’s birthday to simply faking a vomiting spell. But in a eHarmony has admitted its matching algorithm isn’t always perfect by creating an iOS app that fakes a phone call, giving you an emergency exit to an awkward night out.

Now there are plenty of ‘fake phone call’ apps already available, but eHarmony’s free Bad Date Rescue seems to go above and beyond the call of duty. In addition to being able to specify when the call will arrive, it also lets you choose the emergency, like your mum calling to let you know your sister is in labour, or your neighbour informing you that a water pipe in your house has burst.

The app even fakes a voice on the other end of the line, and if you don’t know what to say to your terrible date to excuse yourself, you can even activate a ‘repeat after me’ script that talks you through the perfect phrasing to help you escape. [iTunes App Store via The Globe and Mail]
