This Robot Never Loses At Rock, Paper, Scissors Because It's A Damn Cheater

This rudimentary robot hand, developed by the Ishikawa Oku Laboratory in Japan, never loses at Rock, Paper, Scissors. It has a perfect record against everyone who's ever challenged it, but that's only because it can see and react faster than any human can.

Using a high-speed camera, the position and shape of the human competitor's hand can be recognised, at which point the robot will play whatever it needs to win. And this all happens in about 1ms. It appears as if the robot is playing fairly. But it's not. It's actually blatantly cheating. But in this case that's a good thing because it shows that man and machines might actually be able to work together very closely one day. Doing construction, exploring the stars, or just roaming the country as conmen. [Ishikawa Oku Laboratory via Automaton]

Actually I think it'll be the opposite. When man and robots are living together:

Man: "Hey robot, do this job"
    Robot: "No, you do it"
Man: "Fine, we'll play rock paper scissors to determine who does it..."

I foresee a future where man does all the mundane stuff robots are supposed to do because robots will never lose a rock paper scissors.

Easy way to break the record: build an identical one and place them against each other! Of course, from the slow motion video and the explanation, the robot does wait for the human to choose before making a split second decision, so it wouldn't work if both the robots that are pitched against one another. No one robot will go until the other goes.

Isnt that like Google-ing 'Google'? Its just common sense not too mate...

Here it is, the beginning of the robot revolution!! First rock, paper, scissors, next WW3!!

So if you fake from scissors into paper...

How would it go if you added Lizard or Spock?

"John Conner, in 20 years time you will beat me at rock, paper, scissors, now I must kill you" - T3 gets jealous...
