Although nothing you own currently uses the zippy fast 802.11ac spec, buying a 802.11ac router now futureproofs your home with autobahn wireless speeds. Previously, the super-fast routers that have came out have all been asspensive; these Belkin 802.11ac routers are the cheapest you’ll find right now.
According to Belkin, the AC1200 DB operates on a 1166Mbps link rate (300Mbps on 2.4GHz, 867MBps on 5GHz) and the AC1000 DB is two times faster than 802.11n tech with with simultaneous dual-band speeds up to 996Mbps (300Mbps on 2.4GHz, 665Mbps on 5GHz). As with any router, these numbers are “on paper” and most definitely won’t be IRL speeds.
Both routers come with four Gigabit ports and two USB ports. The AC1000 DB will cost $US140 and the AC1200 DB will ring you up $US160. Both should be out by the end of the month. [Press Release via The Verge]
