Brazilian artist Rodrigo Torres has finally found away to improve upon the already gorgeous sight of a pile of cold hard cash: delicately crafted cut collages of currency from all over the world.
Carving out fragiles curls and lace scrolls, the bills become transcend their inherent capitalist connotations, to something more nuanced, art that celebrates not so much what the bills can do for us as what the bills look like. Even on their own, they’re really rather lovely, but layered and arranged, Torres achieves something truly special.
Torres’s cash collages have been selected by Art Basel Switzerland to be featured in the month’s Art Feature sector in Switzerland, which runs June 14 — June 17. [Inhabitat]
