Gizmodo’s Developers Cubed series offers a behind the scenes look into Australia’s up and coming dev scene. This week: We talk to the Brandon Cowan, the 18-year old who already has five apps to his name and two more in the pipeline.
Who are you and where do you work?
I’m Brandon Cowan, owner of Crazy Dog Apps. I’m 18-years old and have developed and released 5 iOS apps so far, with another 2 being released in the next 4 weeks. I work from my home office.
Why do we know you? What have you created?
My iParkedHere iPhone app hit number 8 on iTunes last year featuring me on The Project, Today Tonight, The Today Show, 2GB radio and many other media outlets. A few months ago, I released PetRescue and AUSBUY, 2 more iOS apps that reached the top 100 apps on iTunes.
What platforms do you develop for?
So far, iOS but in the near future, I’ll most likely be developing for Android as well.
What are you working on right now?
A game for an international gaming company, a cool reminder app that is a great alternative to the current boring one, a game which I hope will be the next Angry Birds (this should be released in 3-4 weeks and I’m very excited to see it in the hands of thousands of people from around the world!) and other apps. I really enjoy turning great ideas into apps.
What do you think about the rise and rise of App Stores? How has it influenced your titles?
App Stores are a huge opportunity for people with ideas providing us with a new medium for success. Now, you can simply come up with an app idea and turn it into an app. You don’t even need to know how to code!
What’s your favourite app that you didn’t create?
What phone do you use? Why?
iPhone 4S. Apple and iPhones are amazing!
