Rick and Erica Jones have been trying to adopt a baby for the past three years. Unfortunately for the Michigan couple, their adoption agency (Morningstar Adoption centre) doesn’t have the means to market their clients — nor do the Jones’s have the enough money to pay for the services of a larger, more successful adoption agency.
To date, none of the traditional methods of spreading word that they’re looking to adopt have had any success: flyers, newspaper ads, even Facebook has failed them. So, unwilling to give up their dream of becoming parents, Rick has taken to Twitter, using the handle @rjman48 to tweet at celebrities, with the hope that they’ll retweet his story to their thousands upon thousands of followers.
This is yet another example of Twitter incredible power to effect change — be it the revolutions in Egypt and Libya, or the kidnapped man who tweeted at this girlfriend from the trunk of his car and was saved via the power of the retweet.
With any luck, Twitter will come through for the Jones’s. After all, if Facebook can facilitate organ donation, adoption via Twitter isn’t that far off. [Mashable]
