Amazing Portal Short Film Shows Why You Can’t Trust Your Friends

“Wouldn’t it be awesome to have a Portal gun in real life?” I’ll admit that I’ve thought about this far more than I should, but I don’t have any creative talent to express how it might look if I actually got my hands on one. That’s not a problem for Jason Craft though, who created this awesome video of friends being douchebags to each other with Aperture’s best creation.

Portal: Terminal Velocity is a three-and-a-half minute short posted to Vimeo that tells the story of three friends testing out a new Portal gun. The three friends are of varying moral character in the story, with one wanting to test it for fun, the other wanting to play a prank and the third guy who always takes it too far.

Needless to say it ends how all fights between friends do: with one being caught in an infinite loop between wormholes and needing to be shot across the backyard into a fence to remedy the situation. I’ve lost count of how many times that’s happened between me and my friends.

Craft described the video project as the toughest thing he’s done on film.

Based on the video game, POrtal. I tried to match the game as close as possible. This was the most challenging project I have ever undertaken, consisting of 3D tracking, seamless camera cuts and 3D camera projection. This started out as an experiment since I didn’t think I could even pull it off, if I knew it would’ve turned out as good as it did I would’ve put more of a story behind it.

The short is definitely worth three minutes of your time. [Vimeo via Web Pro News]
