This Watch Might Have Saved Someone’s Life In Vietnam

Luxury watchmakers seem to be caught up in an arms race to include the most exotic materials in their timepieces. From genuine volcanic ash, to metal from the Titanic to a face stamped from the bodywork of one of the mostrecognizable symbols of the Vietnam War.

Mecccaniche Veloci’s new Only One watch collection includes this simple design that was created using a panel from the Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter, or ‘Huey’ as it’s commonly referred to. The helicopter, which was used to deliver troops to the front lines and carry the injured to field hospitals, became an icon of the Vietnam war. And while Mecccaniche Veloci doesn’t reveal the pedigree of the Huey they used, the body panel looks pretty banged up.

And staying true to the ‘Only One’ nature of the line, the company is producing four different versions of the Huey watch, but only one of each design. So if you’re the type who absolutely needs to stand out in a crowd, you’ll be guaranteed that no one else on the planet is wearing the same watch as you — as long as you’re willing to pay dearly for that privilege.
