This Giant Low-Res LCD Ribbon Is More Beautiful Than Your Hi-Def TV

Even though this installation at the Nature Research Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, is composed of 3600 see-through glass ‘pixels’ that can only change their opacity, it’s still capable of playing back stunning animations mimicking phenomena in nature.

Created and built by Plebian Design and Hypersonic Design & Engineering, the piece, titled Patterned by Nature, plays animations of drifting clouds, flocks of birds, rain drops, and even simulated colonies of bacteria. When accompanied with sound, even though the animations are horribly pixelated and lo-res, the effect is still utterly convincing and beautiful. [Vimeo via Geeks are Sexy]
