Report: Facebook Messenger App Could Get Video Chat Upgrade Soon

It’s rumoured that Facebook is extending its standalone Messenger app for iPhone to include video chat capabilities, and 9to5mac reports that the current beta version is “smooth most of the time”.

It’s claimed that the app is currently undergoing testing on Facebook’s internal servers, and it is thought that it will be launched ahead of a similar upgrade to the Android version of Messenger.

There are also reports that a version of Messenger is being readied for release on iPad — which 9to5mac claims is “basically a larger version of the iPhone application” — though there is speculation that Facebook will eventually move towards releasing a single iOS app.

There are currently no details of when the iPhone or iPad apps will launch. [9to5mac via The Verge]
